Last year American Idol had to deal with the controversy surrounding contestant Carly (Hennessy) Smithson, and this year a similar story is playing out on the popular reality TV show.
As Lyndsey Parker writes on her Reality Rocks blog, Idol contestant Joanna Pacitti isn't an undiscovered talent competing for her chance at fame but rather a washed-up pop star whose previous shot at stardom was a colossal failure.
The 24-year-old singer's debut album, This Crazy Life, was released by Geffen Records in 2006. Her songs have also appeared on soundtracks to films such as Legally Blonde and Bratz, and even Britney Spears covered a Pacitti song called Out From Under on her latest album, Circus
She's no reality TV novice, either; Pacitti apparently tried to launch her music career on the MTV show True Life.

Joanna appears on American Idol and wowed the judges in the trials held in Louisiville, Kentucky. And no wonder because she has a fledgling recording career already with ups and downs. One senses that she has paid her dues and is destined for stardom.

As a biography she was born on October 6, 1984 in Philadelphia which makes her 24 years old. Her gorgeous dark hair and light complexion are due to a mix of Irish and Italian heritage. Her father owned a local barber shop where Joanna began signing at the age of only 5 years old. Since that time, she has doggedly pursued an all-American dream to become a musical star. At the age of 11 years old, she joined the cast of “Annie” on Broadway, only to develop bronchitis and get cut from the show in a controversial move by the directors.
Because of her burgeoning talent, Joanna was signed by A&M Records to her first recording contract which resulted in her appearance in movie soundtracks such as Legally Blonde and Bratz.
Her most popular single is “Let It Slide” which was produced under the Geffen Records label which also produced her only album, This Crazy Life in 2006. Our hunch is that she has a lot more singles to produce and a lot more albums in her, based on her American Idol performance. Ms. Pacitti’s audition song is called “Out From Under” which makes her a favorite to win the competition.

Joanna Pacitti's "Off From Under" is the subject of Britney Spears on her new album "Circus". He had previously been signed by A & M and Geffen Records. Annie is played on 20 Anniversary Broadway revival when he was 11 years but was fired when he was bronchitis, two weeks before opening on Broadway, accused their parents and the dispute was sent to a segment of 20/20 Barbara Walters.
